So last summer I started reading Lust For Life, a biography of Vincent Van Gogh, and I became very intrigued by the description of him sketching flemish coal miners. At the time he was working in a very poor mining community as a pastor, and was enamored with the spirit of these workers, thier connection to the land and thier innate nobility.
Now, I'm no Van Gogh, and I don't see a lot of turn of the century flemmish miners, but I tried to imagine what it was that he saw. and then tried to apply it to the people that I see at work.
