I recently asked Don Lew if he knew any cool Yahoo! creator clubs to join. His response was nothing I didn't already know. That they all pretty much start off with lots of "umph!" but tend to die off; mainly because so many of them fill up with members that post an introductory message or spam to their personal websites right before dissapearing. With the exception of a few clubs, this is true. So, why use the logos for the ADD and OCCC to represent heaven and hell and what does that have to do with the lifespan of Yahoo! creator clubs? Simple.
The ADD was created by former collaborators of the OCCC who had a dispute with the latter's founders and decided to branch off on their own with hopes of making a site where the members would contribute on a steady basis. To quote them, sort of an "internet web magazine" where surfers could find different stories to read which were created by their members. Pretty much the same noble goal that whatashock.com had when it first came on the scene. And it looked like it was actually going to happen for a second there. But, like the OCCC's founders came to find out, you can't rely on slackers like us who have a hard enough time putting together their own projects to work as freelance artists for a webzine that won't do much more than get your drawings seen by other club members. Lesson learned? I hope not.
Having just turned one, the ADD is still going strong member and post wise at least. The site is another story. A heartfelt rant by one of its founders on his dissapointment with the lack of member participation prompted rude responses from several members in the club. This lead to lots of "what I really meant to say..." posts which lead to more rude responses once folks saw other folks back down. In the end, what it had was an old fashioned verbal brawl worthy of the OCCC. Seeing as how that was the most member participation the club had seen in quite some time, one of the founders took it upon himself to keep it going by bashing anything too mainstream and attacking any fanboy that came in the club. That, of course, led to less new members but it sure riled up the peanut gallery so the ranting forefather was encouraged by his partner in banter. The red/white logo is perfect for the not so dynamic duo who are the pillars of this society of wannabes. One pisses everyone else enough to post instead of leaving while the other spends his time justifying him and trying to sneak in some subtle pleas for help with the site.
So, which one is heaven which one is hell (I don't capitalize them since I believe in neither)? That's really up to you to decide. But if you judge simply by the way the original heaven and hell came about keep this in mind. Hell didn't come about until Lucifer thought that he could do a better job than god and the ADD didn't come about until members thought...well, I won't put words in their mouths and I really don't speak in favor of either club since I'm a member in both (though I may not be after this is read). But if you're judging by which club is better to be a member in, I suggest you visit both and decide for yourself.
